Professor, Long Island University
Dr. Sam Y. Chung is a Professor of Finance (tenured since 2005) at the School of Business -Long Island University,
NY. Dr. Chung had served as a Dean of the Graduate School of Finance at Seoul School of Integrated Science and
Technology (aSSIST) during April, 2014-March, 2017 where he developed and launched the Master of Alternative
Investment program for the Alternative Investment professionals in Korea. He is currently a director of the Korea
Alternative Investment Research Institute (www.kairi.re.kr ). He had been an Academic Advisor of the Chartered
Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA), a research associate of the Center for International Securities
and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) at the University of Massachusetts and an Editorial Board Member of the Journal
of Alternative Investments. Dr. Chung has also advised Korea Financial Services Commission and Financial Supervisory
Services regarding Hedge Fund and other Alternative Investments regulatory policies in Korea.
In the global Hedge Funds/PEF industry, Dr. Chung has had 20+ years of experience as a researcher, advisor, and senior
portfolio manager in both U.S. and Korea. He has been advising multiple Global GPs for their investment relations with Korean
LPs including NPS, KIC, Korea-Post, and other Korean public and private pensions.
Dr. Chung received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Master of Finance from Boston College,
and M.B.A from Illinois State University. He has published various articles in Journals such as the Journal of International
Business and Finance, the Journal of Alternative Investment along with numerous research and consulting endeavors in the area
of financial risk management and measurement. His current research interests include: Risk Measurement and Management
through Derivatives Markets, Alternative Investment (Hedge Funds, CTAs, Managed Futures, etc.) strategies, Futures Market
Microstructure, and International Banking and Finance. He is a member of American Finance Association (AFA), Financial
Management Association (FMA), European Finance Association (EFA), Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA),
and Korea-America Finance Association (KAFA).
