We would like to extend our warm welcome to honoured guests to the 10th Global Insurance
Symposium. We take this opportunity to tell that we thank presidents of major insurance
companies and insurance industry officials here including Choe, Heung Sik, Governor of the
Financial Supervisory Service, Lee, Soo Chang, chairman of Korea Life Insurance Association,
and Chang, Nam Sik, chairman of General Insurance Association of Korea. We also thank you
very much indeed for Han, Ki Jeong, president of Korea Insurance Research Institute where
co-hosted this symposium.
This Global Insurance Symposium has marked the 10th anniversary of its foundation.
For the last decade, this symposium has presented pending issues on the insurance industry
and attempted to find measures on them. This year, we would like to deal with the biggest issue
‘Aging and Insurance’ in our society. Korean society is quickly shifting into an aging society with
no parallel anywhere else in the world. Nevertheless, welfare policies for such situation are not
enforced, and individuals are not preparing adequately for their old age either.
The theme of this year is “Are You Preparing for Era of Centenarians - Aging Society, Condition
for Public & Private Insurance”. Therefore, we shall look into two prominent axes of private
insurance in the preparation for aging society, such as accident insurance and annuity insurance.
Especially we could gain insight into implications through experiences of developed countries
in Europe and also get a big picture of Moon government’s insurance policy. Furthermore,
this symposium is expected to provide implications necessary for the task of a so-called
‘later-life preparation’ we all face.
We wish you all here good health and all the happiness, and wish this symposium will end in
great success. Thank you very much.
