Introduction

The topic of the session 1 at this year’s Seoul International A&D Conference is

“Alternative investment is booming in the era of inflation.”

The global economy faced a severe inflation-induced crisis due to the pandemic-driven

global supply bottlenecks and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Major countries are working on

easing inflation by aggressive raising interest rate and fiscal tightening. Addressing inflation

has become a global issue of interest as the significance of economic recovery is diminished.

For now, inflation is unfamiliar and strange, because it surpassed the structural deflationary pressure

in 13 years and hit the highest level over the past four decades. It was initially assumed that it would

last temporarily, but higher price pressure than previously expected is growing.

Driven by interest rate hike and monetary tightening, the price of assets such as stock, cryptocurrency

and property plummeted. Thus, investors are unable to find appropriate investment sources.

At this event, Adrian Mucalov, Partner at UK investment firm Actis focused on alternative investment

and Richard Miller, Founder and Chairman of TCW Private Credit will give lectures on alternative

investment, which is recognized as significant in times of inflation.

Alongside this, Lim Seong-ju, Vice President at SK ecoplant Value Innovation and Lee Dong-keun

at Senior Manager of Financial Advisory Services at KPMG will speak about effective investment

opportunity in times of inflation.

In Session 2, Korean experts across various sectors will discuss the need to open carbon credit

future market and details about implementation status.

With ESG (Environment, Society and Governance) becoming more significant worldwide,

environmental issues are increasingly and rapidly considered more important. As major countries are

making efforts to achieve carbon neutrality goals earlier, the establishment of carbon credit future market

is expected to contribute to boosting carbon credit transaction.

Yang Seung-ryong, who is a professor at Korea University specializing in financial derivatives

and Dr. Ha Ae-jin, an associate research fellow of Securities and Derivatives R&D Center at KRX

will grace this year’s event as guest speakers. Also, Yoo Seung-jik, a professor at Department of

Global Cooperation at Sookmyung Women’s University, Jeon Wan,

Sector Manager at the Climate Economy Division, Ministry of Environment and and Park Chan-soo,

Director of SK Securities will join discussions.
