Andrew J. Peat Senior Director/GSK
Andrew Peat received his BSc in 1992 from Miami University and his PhD from MIT in 1997 under the direction of Professor Stephen Buchwald. Andy’s research involved the development and application of transition metal (Pd, Zr) chemistry towards heterocyclic ring construction and alkaloid natural products. After joining Glaxo Wellcome, Research Triangle Park NC, in 1997, Andy worked in the area of metabolic diseases and contributed to the development of two clinical assets. He was promoted to a section leader in 2008 and began pursuing therapies within Infectious Diseases, one of which entered clinical development. Shortly thereafter, Andy served as the leader of the HCV polymerase program and is a co-inventor of GSK175 which is in Phase 2 clinical trials. He is currently the head of the Host Defense Chemistry & DMPK department and the Clinical Development Leader of a novel anti-inflammatory agent in Phase 2 clinical trials. Andy has held a number of positions within GSK which include leading an external chemistry outsourcing initiative and developing in silico chemistry design tools. He also created within GSK a Chemistry Performance Unit that is exploring and expanding the utility of atypical elements in drug discovery. He is a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee of the MEDI division within the American Chemical Society and has chaired symposia at national ACS events. In addition to numerous external presentations, Andy is a primary author of 30 peer-reviewed publications and 15 patents. | |
