Distinguished Guests,
Welcome to the 8th Seoul International Food Forum hosted by the Financial News.
First off, as the world is facing the COVID-19 crisis, we deeply appreciate Frode Solberg,
Ambassador, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Korea for his presence here today and other
food authorities from home and abroad.
I must also express gratitude to James Choi, Ambassador, Australian Embassy Republic
of Korea and Philip Turner, Ambassador, Embassy of New Zealand in Korea, who could
not come to this forum because of the circumstances but sent us a congratulatory remark
messages. We are thankful to the support of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety that
sponsors the event.
The Financial News selected ‘Food Industry Overcoming the Pandemic’ as the topic of
Seoul International Food Forum this year. I have heard the news that some countries
around the globe are panic-buying food amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Korea is one of those countries where panic-buying does not take place. In this
country, fresh organic food products purchased online in the evening are delivered to
your door in the early morning of the next day, thanks to the excellent shipping
network of K-food. Even restaurants can deliver meals to our home.
Food prices in South Korea remain the same before and after COVID-19. Such an
innovative food distribution network can help overcome the crisis.
This year’s forum will be an opportunity to peek into pandemic survival strategies of
food companies. We are going to discuss the ways to be headed by the food industry.
Welcome once again to Seoul International Food Forum, and thank you for your
interest and support.
Nam, Sang In
