Intro
The theme of Session 1 is Cross-Border Business after COVID-19.
The Financial News gained great public attention by holding a media forum two years ago.
In the media forum, distinguished speakers at home and abroad openly discussed cross-border
related topics.
With cross-border business gaining traction, large corporations, securities firms,
and private equity firms are expanding their business to overseas markets.
Samsung Electronics acquired Harman, an automotive electronics company,
for approximately 7 billion dollars in 2017.
SK Group acquired Intel's NAND business for about 9 billion dollars last year.
As seen in these examples, domestic companies started investing in foreign companies
in earnest. Two years have passed. Domestic conglomerates and private equity funds are
still having a competitive edge in cross-border deals.
This year, the Financial News has invited distinguished speakers at home
and abroad to listen to their valuable knowledge and insights about cross-border investment
and how advanced countries respond to the rapid shift in cross-border business
in the COVID-19 pandemic.
As special lecturers, Chris Wofford, Managing Partner of Warford Advisors, an independent,
strategic advisory boutique focused on buy-side and sell-side M&A and strategic consulting,
and Bert Kwan, managing Partner of PE Global, BDA Capital Partners will grace
the 19th Seoul International A&D Conference.
Moreover. Han Young Hee, Senior Director of JLL Korea, a real estate consulting firm that has
entered the domestic market, will talk about cross-border real estate investment
such as checking the transaction volume of major offices and logistics warehouses at home
and abroad and promising theme trends.
The theme of Session 2 is the Role of the Derivatives Market when Interest Rate fluctuates.
Derivatives have gained popularity among business players by offering numerous benefits at a time
when interest rate fluctuates.
As the global economy recovers from COVID-19, problems with inflation urged the countries
around the world to have a discussion on monetary policy.
In particular, as the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) mentioned the tapering policy
in June, the monetary normalization has gained much more attention.
As the variability of interest rates sharply increases,
there are more voices calling for strengthening the functions of the derivatives market
to alleviate volatility. In response, the Korea Exchange is easing access to the derivatives market
and strengthening the derivatives product lineup.
In this forum, Bill Herder, the head of Asia-Pacific of Futures Industry Association(FIA) will present
the role of derivatives when interest rate fluctuates.
Next, Lim Soon Young, Associate Research Fellow, KRX Derivatives Market Securities
Derivatives R&D center, will introduce the development of new products at the Korea Exchange,
including RFR futures (short-term interest rate hedging) and ultra-long-term government bond futures
(ultra-long term interest rate hedging). And then panel discussion will be followed to discuss
the development and trading status of global interest rate derivatives
and challenges for the successful settlement of RFR futures.
This event was planned to be held in a hybrid format at 9 am at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido
on August 25.
However, as the government has decided to extend the period of social distancing measure level 4,
which is being applied in the metropolitan area, to September 5 by two weeks as of August 20,
the Financial News will broadcast pre-recorded videos on its YouTube channel 'tvFN‘
on the event day.
