Distinguished guests,
Thank you for attending today's event.
First, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Kim Gang Lip,
Minister of Food and Drug Safety, Catherine Raper, Ambassador of Australia
to the Republic of Korea, and Frode Solberg, Ambassador of Norway
to the Republic of Korea.
Seoul International Food Forum hosted by The Financial News celebrates its
10th anniversary this year. Once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude
to the authorities, food companies, and diplomatic delegates for their continued
support of this event.
Every January, the world's largest electronics show, CES, is held in Las Vegas, USA.
It is a competition venue where not only electronic products such as mobile phones
and TVs, but also high-tech products such as automobiles, drones, and robots are dispatched.
But recently, a new trend has been added to CES. This is "Food Tech."
Three years ago, an innovative food company called Impossible Foods in the US
introduced the "Impossible Burger" made with plant-based protein.
This year, various alternative foods such as hot dogs and ice cream are introduced at CES
and they gained a lot of attention.
Indeed, alternative food is no longer the story of the future, which we can only find
in sci-fi movies. Food startups, as well as conglomerates, rolled up their arms to develop
alternatives and Korean companies joined the ranks.
Reflecting this trend, the theme of this year's forum is designated as ‘Food for
future generations' and ESG in the food industry.
ESG and alternative food, which emphasize corporate social responsibility, are like
two sides of the same coin. This is because alternative food has been considered a solution
to the climate crisis and animal welfare.
In recent years, alternative foods have also been attracting attention from
the perspective of food security.
This year, we have prepared a special session looking into the pet food market.
We hope this session helps you explore business opportunities in the growing pet market.
The COVID-19 pandemic seems to have come to an end.
Please take care of your health. Once again, thank you for attending today's event
despite your busy schedule.
Thank you.
